ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca field hockey team (6-5) scored three times in the first half and went on to a 4-0 win over Brockport (4-3) on Tuesday evening at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers got two goals from senior
Julia Conroy and senior goalkeepers
Kelly Singleton and
Samantha Grassi combined on the shutout.
Ithaca wasted little time in getting out to a commanding lead.
Conroy scored her first of the game and 10th of the season on an assist from
Lindsay Flanagan in the fifth minute. The lead doubled in the 14th minute when
Katie Kennedy scored on an assist from
Flanagan on a clever pass around the Brockport goalkeeper.
The Bombers added to the lead before halftime on
Conroy's second goal of the game.
The final goal of the game came off of a penalty corner in the closing minutes of the second half.
Lindsay Flanagan scored her fourth of the year on an assist from
Andrea Pace. Ithaca held a dominating 14-8 advantage in shots and a 9-5 edge in penalty corners.
Singleton played the first half and earned her sixth win of the year, making two saves.
Grassi played the second half and made two saves.
The Bombers posted their sixth win of the season, with seven regular-season games and potential post-season games remaining. It's already the highest win total in four years, since the 2008 team finished with an 8-9 record.
Ithaca returns to action Friday evening at St. John Fisher at 5 p.m.
