Buzzer-Beater Sinks Men's Basketball Against Hartwick

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College men's basketball team (8-12, 5-4 Empire 8) fell to visiting Hartwick (18-2, 7-2 Empire 8) as the Hawks hit a three-point basket at the buzzer.

Junior point guard Sean Rossi (Sparta/Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) tied the game with a three-pointer with nine seconds left but the Hawks inbounded the ball and connected on a long three-point shot as the buzzer sounded to stay in first place in the Empire 8.

Rossi finished with 17 points and seven assists. His late three-pointer marked the 11th time the score was tied in the back-and-forth game.

Sophomore forward Frank Mitchell (Hillsborough/Hillsborough, N.J.) led Ithaca with 22 points and added five rebounds. Senior guard Jordan Marcus (Solomon Schecter/West Orange, N.J.) and sophomore center Tom Sweeney (Wissahickon/Ambler, Pa.) added 10 apiece. Sweeney's total matched his career high. Marcus also contributed five rebounds and three steals.

Freshman guard Connor Rogers (Liverpool/Liverpool) recorded career-best totals of 10 rebounds and six assists. Junior forward Andrei Oztemel (Staples/Westport, Conn.) pulled down nine rebounds to go along with six points, three assists and two blocked shots.

Four free throws and a basket by Sweeney, a three-point play by Mitchell (with Rossi assisting on the lay-up) and a Rossi three-point basket over a 2:51 span gave the Bombers their biggest lead -- a 66-58 advantage with 5:38 to go.

The Bombers return to action Friday, playing at Nazareth at 8 p.m.
