Ithaca Field Hockey Rally Falls Short

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. - Oneonta (6-2) scored a pair of first-half goals on penalty corners and held on for a 2-1 win over the Ithaca field hockey team (2-5) Wednesday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.

The Bombers scored the only goal in the second half and held a 16-8 shots advantage over the last 35 minutes. Sophomore midfielder Emily Lash (Oley Valley/Oley, Pa.) scored Ithaca's goal with 9:53 remaining in the second half. It was the first goal of the season and third of her career for Lash. She picked up the ball following a stoppage and dribbled about 10 yards before firing a low, hard shot to the back of the cage from inside the right-wing side of the arc.

Ithaca pressured for a game-tying goal and earned four of penalty corner attempts after reducing the deficit to one goal, but couldn't tally an equalizer. The Bombers held a 9-1 advantage in corners in the second half.

Junior goalkeeper Kelly Singleton (Irondequoit/Rochester) made 14 saves in the game, the seventh consecutive game in which she's recorded 10 or more saves.

The Bombers conclude a four-game homestand Saturday at 1 p.m. against Stevens.
