ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca volleyball team (3-5) dropped a 3-2 (25-12, 25-18, 22-25, 20-25, 17-15) match to Geneseo (5-2) Saturday morning before surrendering a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-17) sweep to St. John Fisher (4-1) on day two of the Bomber Invitational in Ben Light Gymnasium. Junior
Marissa Weil (Corning West/Corning) was named to the all-tournament team for the Bombers.
Weil posted team-bests of 12 and 10 kills against the Blue Knights and Cardinals, respectively. .
Geneseo jumped out to an early 2-0 series advantage, but the Bombers forced the match to five in come-from-behind fashion.

Elizabeth Previte (Hunterdon Central/Flemington, N.J.) brought the Bombers within one, 2-1.
Ithaca again surged late in game four as the Bombers knotted the series at 2-2 with a 25-20 finish. Tied-up at 19-19, Ithaca cruised to victory on

(Northern Valley Regional/Haworth, N.J.) serve.
The Blue Knights edged the Bombers, 17-15, in the fifth frame. Ithaca claimed its first lead of the game at 7-6 before three consecutive points instated a 12-9 Bomber cushion. Geneseo rallied to tie the match at 12-12. The teams went point-for-point until a pair of visitor points broke the 15-15 deadlock to claim the match.

Kate Thoene (Voorhees/High Bridge, N.J.) added 12 and senior
Jessica Hoeffner (Hauppauge/Hauppauge) 10. Senior
Karin Edsall (Cornwall Central/Cornwall) dished out a career-high 33 assists and added 14 digs for the match's only double-double.
Thoene compiled a career-high tying nine blocks (2 solo, 7 assists) to move-up to seventh all-time at Ithaca for career blocks. She finished the day with a career total of 367.
Empire 8 foe St. John Fisher took three straight from the Bombers in the last match of the tournament. Ithaca got off to an early 8-2 advantage in the first set, but the Cardinals battled back to take an 11-10 lead. Ithaca put up with five unanswered for a 15-11 advantage and held the lead until St. John Fisher made it a 20-20 set. Ithaca had a one-point edge at 22-21 but the Cardinals put away four straight to set the tone for the rest of the match.
The score switched possession four times, highlighted by eight ties, before St. John Fisher claimed the lead for good in the second set at 14-13. They scored four of the next five points for an 18-14 lead helping them take another 25-22 game.
St. John Fisher opened the final frame with a 13-7 lead never allowing the Bombers to take control of the scoreboard. Ithaca brought the set within two, 17-15, but the Cardinals outscored Ithaca 8-2 to take the match in straight sets.
