ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca gymnastics team improved its record to 8-6 on the year by placing second in a field of four teams at the Bombers' annual Harriett Marranca Memorial Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Bombers scored 182.975 and defeated Cortland (182.250) and Wilson (166.675). Brockport placed first with a score of 186.475.
Bomber junior
Jessica Bolduc (Darien/Darien, Conn.) placed first on uneven bars with a score of 9.55 and first on floor exercise with a score of 9.7. Her score on floor was just a quarter-point shy of her career-best mark of 9.725, achieved twice in the 2010 season.
Bolduc also placed second in all-around competition with a total of 37.775 and was fourth on vault with 9.575.
Ithaca placed two other gymnasts among the meet's top 10 on uneven bars. Junior
Samantha Whiffen (Sharon/Sharon, Mass.) was second to Bolduc with a score of 9.5 and sophomore
Chelsea Robie (Batt Private School/Hobe Sound, Fla.) was eighth at 9.3.
Junior
Kay Gordon (Summit/Breckenridge, Colo.) was fifth in all-around with a score of 35.75. She placed seventh on balance beam with a score of 9.1 and eighth on floor at 9.325. Senior
Justine Picciano (Rush-Henrietta/Rochester) was eighth on balance beam with a score of 9.05 and eighth on floor at 9.375.
Senior
Kailee Spusta (Palmyra-Macedon/Macedon) scored 9.575 to tie for third on floor exercise.
Freshman
Shilanna Gallo (Central Catholic/Windham, N.H.) was 10th on vault with a score of 9.35.
Ithaca's five seniors were honored after the meet and the team wore pink leotards to show support for those affected by breast cancer and to raise awareness for breast cancer research. Ithaca's five seniors are

Lauren Ferrone (Whitesboro/Utica),
Lauren Marcoux (Glastonbury/South Glastonbury, Conn.),

Spusta.
Ithaca and Cortland entered Saturday's meet tied for third in the national scoring rankings and Ithaca edged the Red Dragons by just over seven-tenths of a point. Those two teams will meet in dual-meet competition Wednesday at Cortland.
