Ithaca Field Hockey Wins 4-1

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca field hockey team (1-1) scored three goals in a span of seven minutes in the second half to put the game out of reach in a 4-1 win over Morrisville (1-1) Saturday afternoon at Yavits Field. Four different players scored for Ithaca, which has never lost to the Mustangs in three all-time meetings.

Ithaca opened the scoring in the first half on a goal from junior forward Jessica Dillon (Mahopac/Mahopac), who tipped in a long pass from the left side by junior forward Heather Kozimor (Hackettstown/Vienna, N.J.).

The three-goal burst by Ithaca in the second half started with the first career goal for freshman midfielder Sam English (Ocean Township/Ocean, N.J.) who deflected a knee-high pass from senior midfielder Katherine Brown (Akron/Akron) out of the air and past the goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Brown scored from the top of the circle on an assist from senior defender Key Fox (Hunterdon Central/Solebury, Pa.). Ithaca's fourth goal came on a penalty stroke by senior back Mia Muzio (Rockport/Rockport, Mass.), who scooped the stroke into the upper part of the net after Morrisville was whistled for a defensive goal infraction.

Ithaca had a 19-6 advantage in shots, and limited Morrisville to just one shot in the first half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Singleton (Irondequoit/Rochester) made the start and earned her first career win. She made one save, stopping a breakaway attempt by a Morrisville player. Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Grassi (Rondout Valley/Kerhonkson) played the final 20 minutes and made three saves in her college debut.

The Bombers continue a three-game homestand Thursday, when Brockport visits at 4 p.m.
