Hoboken, N.J. -- The field hockey team (3-3, 0-1 Empire 8) lost 2-1 at Stevens (1-5, 1-0 Empire 8) Saturday in their first Empire 8 game of the season.

Sam English (Ocean Township/Ocean, N.J.) scored off a penalty corner to put the Bombers on the board in the 55th minute after the host Ducks had scored a pair of goals early in the second half. The goal was her second of the season. Ithaca had a chance to tie the score with under five minutes to go, but Stevens' goalkeeper stopped a Bomber penalty stroke (her second save of the game on a penalty stroke).

Sophomore Kelly Singleton (Irondequoit/Rochester) made 14 saves -- the second-highest single-game total of her career.

The Bombers host Nazareth next Saturday.
