Panama City, Fla. -- The softball team (2-4) wrapped up play at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic with a 3-1 loss to Denison in a nine-inning game Sunday.
The Bombers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring sacrifice hit by junior second baseman Kait Dolan (Victor/Farmington). Dolan's bunt scored right fielder # Meghan Kissinger# (Country Day/Havertown, Pa.), who'd led off with a single and taken third on a single by first baseman Caitlin Ryan (Allentown/Clarkston, N.J.).
Ithaca threatened in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings; in the sixth junior outfielder Brittany Lillie (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) singled with two outs and stole second. In the eighth, the Bombers put the potenital winning run on third, but Denison turned a double play to end the inning. Ithaca's ninth-inning threat also ended with a double play.
Kissinger had two of Ithaca's five hits, including a double.
The Bombers return to action Tuesday in Clermont, Fla., taking on Geneseo and Plattsburgh.
