Gymnasts Second at Marranca Memorial With Highest Score of Year

Jessica Bolduc placed first on uneven bars and in all-around Saturday

ITHACA, N.Y. – The #5 Ithaca gymnastics team (5-9) posted a season-best team score of 183.000, had two event champions and placed second in a field of four at the Harriet Marranca Memorial Invitational Saturday at the Hill Center Gymnasium. The Bombers finished ahead of #1 Brockport (181.525) and #14 Wilson (171.300) and trailed only #6 Cortland (183.375).

Sophomore Jessica Bolduc (Darien/Darien, Conn.) won two individual events. She placed first in a very strong field on uneven bars with a career-best score of 9.650. The competitors on uneven bars included six of the top-11 nationally-ranked gymnasts in that event. Bolduc also finished first among the all-around competitors with a total of 37.475. She was second on floor exercise (9.725) and tied for third on vault (9.350).

Three other Ithaca gymnasts joined Bolduc among the top-six finishers on floor exercise. Senior Brianne Sullivan (Schuylerville/Gansevoort) and junior Kailee Spusta (Palmyra-Macedon/Macedon) tied for fourth in the event at 9.575 and freshman Katie Sampson (Erindale Secondary/Mississauga, Ontario) was sixth with a score of 9.475.

Senior Rachel Taylor (San Pasqual/Escondido, Calif.) was third on the uneven bars with a score of 9.225 and also tied for third on vault at 9.350. Sophomore Kay Gordon (Summit/Breckenridge, Colo.) was Ithaca's leader on balance beam, finishing fifth with a score of 9.075. She also ranked fourth in all-around with a score of 35.700.

The Bombers return to action Friday at Ursinus. The meet will begin at 6:30 p.m.
