Cortland, N.Y. -- The women's soccer team (7-1-0), ranked eighth by the NSCAA and 17th by D3soccer.com, rallied to beat #27/26 Cortland (7-1-0) 2-1 Friday. Freshman Rachael Palladino (Lansing/Groton) scored both Bomber goals.
Palladino picked up her eighth and ninth goals of the season -- tying her for the team lead -- in a seven-minute span of the first half. Just 65 seconds after the host Red Dragons had taken the lead, she put in her own rebound to tie the game and snap a 471-minute Cortland scoreless streak. In the 29th minute, she converted a one-touch shot off an assist from graduate student Lauren Koppel (Southside/Rockville Centre) for the game-winner.
With 21 points, Palladino is now the team's leading score. Her nine goals -- through eight games -- are one short of the school freshman record set by two-time all-American Chelsey Feldman in 2005.
Koppel's assist was her fourth of the year, giving her 18 points.
Junior Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) made seven saves in net including a stop in the 88th minute off a Cortland header following a corner kick.
Ithaca hosts #5/10 William Smith Wednesday.
