Bombers Blank Alfred In Shortened Game

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The women's soccer team (6-1-0, 4-0-0 Empire 8), ranked eighth by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and 17th by D3soccer.com, posted a 6-0 win over visiting Alfred in an Empire 8 game Wednesday. The game was called in the 75th minute because of lightning.

Ithaca's three leading scorers: senior #Amy Scheffer# (Schalmont/Schenectady), graduate student Lauren Koppel (Southside/Rockville Center) and freshman Rachael Palladino (Lansing/Groton), combined for Ithaca's four goals and junior Kelley Hand (Valley Central/Walkill) notched a pair of second-half goals.

Scheffer scored a pair of goals, giving her nine on the season and 31 in her career. With 81 points, she's fifth on the program's all-time scoring list and two points away from second place. She headed in a pair of goals in the first half; the first off a corner kick from junior #Emily Mogk# (Bozeman/Bozeman, Mont.) and the second from Hand's corner kick. In between Scheffer's two goals, Koppel scored on a cross from Mogk (who how has a career-high four assists).

Koppel and Palladino have both scored seven goals this fall.

Hand scored twice in a three-minute span early in the second half with junior Kelly Gannon (Schoharie/Howe Caverns) picking up the assist on her second tally.

Ithaca outshot the Saxons 33-2 with juniors Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) and Jessica Platt (Monument Mountain/New Marlborough, Mass.) and freshman Becca Salant (Holliston/Holliston, Mass.) sharing the shutout.

The Bombers have scored 34 goals this season, eclipsing the 32 scored by the 1999 team for the program's highest total through seven games.

Ithaca plays at #27/26 Cortland Friday at 5 p.m.
