Washington, Pa. – The Ithaca field hockey team (2-3, 0-1 Empire 8) lost 4-2 at Washington & Jefferson (2-1, 1-0 Empire 8) Saturday in the Empire 8 opener for both schools. Ithaca rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the game in the second half, but the Presidents scored twice in the game's final 10 minutes to earn the victory.
Junior forward Katherine Brown (Akron/Akron) opened the scoring for Ithaca in the 41st minute on an assist from freshman forward Abbey Lind (Manheim Township/Lancaster, Pa.). The Bombers tied the score on a goal by freshman midfielder Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow) which was assisted by sophomore midfielder JulieAnne Butare (Bridgewater-Raritan/Martinsville, N.J.).
Senior goalkeeper Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) made five saves. Ithaca outshot Washington & Jefferson 7-2 in the first half.
Ithaca returns to action Sunday at Wooster at 1 p.m.
