Geneva, N.Y. - The #18 William Smith Herons (5-0) defeated the Ithaca field hockey team (2-2) Wednesday afternoon at McCoey Field in Geneva. Senior forward Ally Girasole (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) scored her first goal of the season and second of her career in the game.
Girasole's goal came in the 12th minute on a scramble in front of the cage following a penalty corner for Ithaca and knotted the score 1-1.
Freshman forward Abbey Lind (Manheim Township/Lancaster, Pa.) scored in the second half for the Bombers. Her goal came in the 63rd minute on a deflection of a bouncing shot by freshman Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow). It was Lind's second goal of the year and the second assist of the year by Rivas.
Senior goalkeeper Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) made a career-high 23 saves in the contest.
The Bombers begin Empire 8 play this weekend with a Saturday road game at Washington & Jefferson at noon.
