Gettysburg, Pa.--With five runs in the ninth--four of them coming with two outs--Ithaca (6-3) rallied to defeat Gettysburg (6-9) 6-4. Sophomore Aaron Sapp (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) remained undefeated on the season, moving to 3-0 through three starts. He pitched eight innings, with four strikeouts against just one walk.
The Bomber rally took advantage of three Bullet errors. Junior Bryan Grastorf (Niskayuna/Rexford) reached on an error to lead off the inning. After a strikeout, senior Matt Samela (Staples/Westport, Conn.) was hit by a pitch. Both Grastorf and Samela moved up one a wild pitch. Senior Kurt Bednarcyk (Fairport/Fairport) drove in the Bombers' first run on a groundout, and Dylan Perez (Conval Regional/Peterborough, N.H.) added another on an opposite-field single to pull Ithaca within one at 4-3.
Following another hit batsmen, pinch runner Dan D'Angelo (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) scored the game-tying run on an outfield error that followed a single by sophomore Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.). Streich and sophomore David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington) would score on another Gettysburg error, a dropped ball in centerfield.
With his team staked to a two-run lead, freshman righthander Tucker Healy (Needham/Needham, Mass.) closed the game and picked up his second save of the season. He struck out one and allowed just a single.
Perez and Streich each had three hits in five at bats.
Ithaca returns to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. matchup at Washington (Md.).
