Men's Basketball Falls to #25 Amherst

Amherst, Mass.--Ithaca (2-1) dropped its first game of the season, falling 92-67 to 25th-ranked Amherst (2-0) in the championship game of the Ken Wright '52 Invitational. Freshman Andrei Oztemel (Staples/Westport, Conn.) led the Bombers in scoring, netting a career-high 13 off the bench.

Junior captain Chris Cruz-Rivas (West Genesee/Syracuse) scored 12 points, with sophomore Jordan Marcus (Solomon Schecter/West Orange, N.J.) chipping in 10.

Senior Tom Brown (Bayport/Blue-Point) had a game-high eight rebounds.

Up by just three at halftime, the Lord Jeffs pulled away in the second half with an 18-5 run. For the Bombers, Oztemel scored eight of his points in the second half, making five of his six free throw attempts and hitting a three-pointer. Classmate Eli Maravich (Chartiers Valley/Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored all seven of his points off the bench in the second half.

Freshman point guard Sean Rossi (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) and junior forward Phil Barera (Belmont/Belmont, Mass.) were both picked to the all-tournament team.

The Bombers return to action Tuesday, hosting Oneonta in their home opener. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Ben Light Gymnasium.
