Frostburg, Md. -- The football team (5-2) beat Frostburg State (0-7) 20-10 Saturday. Senior quarterback Brian Grastorf (Niskayuna/Rexford) threw three touchdown passes and the Bombers withstood a late rally, stopping the Bobcats twice on downs in the fourth quarter.
Grastorf capped Ithaca's opening drive with a six-yard pass to junior wide receiver Dan Ruffrage (Notre Dame/Whitesboro) and added a nine-yard touchdown throw to junior wideout Thomas Vossler (Saranac Lake/Loon Lake) 32 seconds into the second quarter.
After Frostburg State's only touchdown pulled the Bobcats to within 13-10 the Bobcats intercepted a Bomber pass and drove to the Ithaca 28-yard line early in the fourth quarter. Senior defensive tackle Joe Goetz (New Hyde Park/New Hyde Park Memorial) tackled the Bobcat running back for a loss and Ithaca forced three incomplete passes -- including a third-down throw broken up by sophomore cornerback Spence White (Yonkers/Sleepy Hollow) -- then drove 71 yards in a 14-play, seven-minute drive to seal the win. Junior tight end Dan Higgins (Gates-Chili/Rochester) caught a 10-yard pass from Grastorf to cap the drive.
White intercepted a Frostburg State pass on the Bobcats' next play and the hosts' final drive ended when junior strong safety David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington) broke up a fourth-down pass.
Ahonen, junior linebacker Eric Toporoff (Montville Township/Towaco, N.J.) and senior defensive end Adam Drescher (Christian Brothers Academy/Fayetteville) all collected seven tackles. Drescher was in on three stops for loss, including a career-best two sacks.

Vossler caught six passes and moved into 15th on the program's all-time list, upping his career total to 78 receptions. Ruffrage made five catches.
Sophomore Andrew Rogowski (Canisius/East Amherst) added extra points after Ithaca's second touchdowns. His first-quarter miss snapped a streak of 32 straight tries dating back to 2008.
Linebacker Matt Scalice (North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda), a graduate student, made his first start in five weeks and collected four tackles. He moved into sixth all-time at Ithaca and his 291 career stops leave him nine short of becoming the fifth Bomber to reach 300.
