#8 Wrestling Team Opens National Duals With Win

Blaine Woszczak is 7-0 in dual meets

Williamsport, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Ithaca wrestling team (7-0) opened competition Friday morning at Lycoming's Budd Whitehill National Duals with a 34-9 win over Rhode Island College. The Bombers, the second seed in the 20-team field, will face Hunter at noon in a second-round match.

Junior Willie Horwath (Liberty/Bethlehem, Pa.) and sophomore Blaine Woszczak (Wall/Manasquan, N.J.) both remained unbeaten in dual matches. Woszczak posted an 8-3 decision at 149 pounds and Horwath followed with a 4-2 win at 157. Both Woszczak (14-3 this season, 46-17 overall) and Horwath (14-2, 69-24) are ranked eighth nationally.

Junior Chad Winowich (Abington Heights/Clarks Summit, Pa.) won by major decision at 133 pounds to raise his season record to 9-2 (2-0 in duals) and his career mark to 53-26.

Juniors Justin Seifried (Mohawk Central/Herkimer) and Joe Goetz (New Hyde Park Memorial/New Hyde Park) were both shutout winners in their dual-match debuts. Seifried (4-1 this season, 31-14 in his career) won 5-0 at 141 and Goetz improved to 4-1 this winter and 33-26 overall with a 2-0 victory at heavyweight.

Junior Scott Edwards (Liberty/Bethlehem, Pa.) won 9-3 at 165 pounds and freshman Chris Carabello (Governor Mifflin/Shillington, Pa.) won by decision at 197 to round out Ithaca's winners (the Bombers received a forfeit win at 174, where they're unbeaten this season). Edwards is now 7-5 this season and 20-25 as a Bomber; Carabello is 9-3.

The 20-team field includes nine nationally ranked teams.
