ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's swimming & diving team (10-4) defeated the University of Rochester (3-9) 183-117 on Saturday afternoon. The win came in the final home dual meet for seven Bomber seniors.
Senior Brant Gawrys (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) won two events for the Bombers. He won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.71) and was also on the victorious 200-yard medley relay team (1:40.59). He added a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke event.
Fellow senior Ryan Wright (Methacton/Eagleville, Penn.) joined Gawrys on the winning 200 medley relay team and also added an individual win by placing first in the 100-yard butterfly event with a season-best time of 55.81 seconds.
Sophomore Joe Gage (Edwin Oscar Smith/Storrs, Conn.) won three individual events for Ithaca. He dominated freestyle events, winning the 100-, 200- and 500-yard free and contributed to the 400-yard freestyle relay team's victory (3:17.46).
Freshman Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) contributed to three Bomber victories. He won the 50-yard freestyle event (21.86) and was a member of both the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.
Freshman Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) was the fourth member of the winning 200 medley relay team and finished second in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke as well as the 200-yard individual medley.
Junior Matt Carolan (Northampton Area/Walnutport, Penn.) added a win for the Bombers. He finished first in the 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 2:03.78.
Senior Mike Ariel (Xaverian Brothers/Norwood, Mass.) and sophomore Steve Croucher (Dallastown/York, Pa.) were the other members of the winning 400 free relay team.
Ithaca's divers swept the Yellow Jackets in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events, placing first, second, and third in both events. Sophomore Mike Glicini (Dallas/Dallas, Pa.) won the 3-meter event with a score of 248.65 points, and placed third in the 1-meter contest. Freshman Derek Rand (Amity/Orange, Conn.) won the 1-meter (233.90) and came in second in the 3-meter event.
Ithaca returns to action Saturday at Le Moyne for a 1 p.m. meet.
