Troy, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team went 5-1 in dual-meet scoring and placed third in a field of seven teams in team scoring at the Henry Kumpf Invitational at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Bombers picked up victories over Clarkson, New Paltz, Oneonta, Rensselaer and Skidmore and lost to Cortland. Ithaca is now 10-4 on the season.
Sophomore Joe Gage (Edwin Oscar Smith/Storrs, Conn.) won two events for the Bombers. He touched first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:16.01 and the 500 free in 4:59.30. Gage also placed second in the 100 free in 48.17 seconds.
Freshman Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.37) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.94).
On the diving boards, freshman Derek Rand (Amity/Orange, Conn.) placed second in 3-meter diving with 238.75 and third on the 1-meter board with a score of 212.30. Senior teammate Andrew Longcore (Red Hook/Red Hook) placed fifth on the 1-meter board with 200.90 points.
Sophomore Steve Croucher (Dallastown Area/York, Pa.) was third in the 100 free (50.46) and fourth in the 200 free (1:51.51). Junior Matt Carolan (Northampton Area/Walnutport, Pa.) was third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.71.
The Bombers compete at home on Saturday, hosting Rochester at the Hill Center Pool at 1 p.m.
