Volleyball Falls to Cortland at RIT

Kate Thoene picked up six kills and three blocks against Cortland.

Rochester, N.Y.Ithaca took its first loss in the RIT Tournament, losing 3-0 to Cortland (8-2). The 6-5 Bombers finished 1-1 in pool play and will continue to play in the tournament Saturday afternoon.

Juniors Jen Heberton (Darien/Darien, Conn.) and Rachel Busch (Hoover/North Canton, Ohio) paced the Bomber attack, registering nine and eight kills, respectively. Sophomore Tina Orlandini (Flintridge Sacred Heart/Altadena, Calif.) led the Bombers with 22 digs. 

Ithaca played Cortland closely, especially in the second set. Down 24-22,Ithaca avoided the set point four times before finally falling on a Red Dragon service ace that clipped the net and barely landed fair.

The Bombers return to play in the tournament Saturday at noon. They will face Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher.
