Cortland, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's swimming team (3-1) defeated Cortland 126-117 Saturday at Cortland. The Bombers won six of the 13 events, led by sophomore
Joe Gage (Edwin Oscar Smith/Storrs, Conn.) and freshman
Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) with two victories each.
Gage, a distance freestyler, won the 1,000 yard freestyle in 10:28.09 and came back to win the 500 free (5:07.42).
Rapp won the 200 backstroke in 2:04.13 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.01.
Rapp also finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:04.18, just .14 seconds behind the race winner from Cortland.
Freshman diver
Derek Rand (Amity/Orange, Conn.) won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 214.27 points and finished second in the 3-meter event with a score of 204.90.
Sophomore
Steve Croucher (Dallastown Area/York, Pa.) was victorious in the 200 free (1:52.33) and finished third in the 100 free. Reigning Empire 8 men's swimming & diving athlete of the week
Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) finished second in the 50 free and 100 free.
The Bombers host Bloomsburg Saturday at 1 p.m.
