ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior forward Elyse Green (Shawnee/Medford, N.J.) scored on a deflection with 2:10 remaining in the game to give the Ithaca field hockey team (7-8) a 2-1 win over visiting Oswego (4-12) Saturday at Yavits Field. Green's goal was her team-leading seventh of the season.
The victory came in Ithaca's final home game of the season. Green and classmates Courtney Clark (Camden/Boonville), Marisa Frank (Bow/Bow, N.H.) and Ally Swink (Downingtown East/Downingtown, Pa.) were honored prior to the start of the game. The Bombers finished with a 7-1 record at home this season, their most home wins in a season since 1998.
Ithaca took the lead in the first half on a long shot from Christine Franz (West Windsor-Plainsboro/Plainsboro, N.J.) off a penalty corner. Franz's shot from the left side of the circle found the back of the net on the short side in the 13th minute. Oswego tied the game less than two minutes later, and Green's dramatic late goal gave Ithaca the win.
The game-winning tally again came off a penalty corner. Frank took the initial shot, and it deflected twice – once by Annie Onzik (Bishop O'Reilly/Shavertown, Pa.) and the decisive redirection from Green.
Ithaca maintains Empire 8 playoff hopes and will wrap up the regular season with a game at Elmira on Saturday.
