Volleyball Sweeps Oneonta on Senior Night

Brianna D'Errico recorded her first career double-double against Oneonta.
Ithaca, N.Y. – Behind senior Brianna D'Errico (Byron-Bergen/Byron), who was honored before the match as the team's lone senior, Ithaca defeated Oneonta 25-13, 25-23, 25-20. The victory marks the second time this season that the Bombers (14-15) defeated the Red Dragons (15-19), and moves their all time record to 44-7 against their in-state opponents.

D'Errico was a contributor, setting a new career high in kills with 11, complemented by 13 digs. She recorded her first career double-double. D'Errico added five assists and one service ace.

In set one, the teams came out even, with neither team able to take control. With her team leading 11-8, junior Rachel Busch (Hoover/North Canton, Ohio) tallied a block and two straight kills to run Ithaca's lead to 14-8. Ithaca hit an astounding .543 for the first set.

Ithaca fell behind early in set two, down as many as five at 14-9. They were unable to make much headway until back to back kills by junior Jen Heberton (Darien/Darien, Conn.) closed the score to 21-19. The Bombers tied the score 23 on two straight Red Dragon errors. A kill by freshman Kate Thoene (Voorhees/High Bridge, N.Y.) and service ace by Heberton closed out the comeback.

Set three was also tightly contested early. Ithaca would slowly build a five point lead at 20-15, and would wrap up the match with three straight kills, two of them coming from D'Errico.

For the match, D'Errico hit .500, while Busch hit .417 and added 12 kills. Heberton lead the Bombers with 16 kills.

Ithaca hosts the Empire 8 Crossover this weekend. The Bombers first match will be against Utica at noon Saturday followed by a match against Hartwick at 2:30 p.m.
