Women’s Swimming & Diving Defeats William Smith; Sets Pool Record

Freshman Jen Heberton won the 100-yard butterfly and was on two winning relay teams.
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The women’s swimming & diving team recorded nine first-place finishes to defeat William Smith 138-97, including four one-two finishes. Sophomore Lauren Botterbusch (Dallastown/York, Pa.) and freshman Jen Heberton (Darien/Darien, Conn.) each recorded three first-place finishes in the meet and the 400-yard medley relay team set a pool record.
 
Botterbusch recorded a winning time of 2:32.52 in the 200-yard breaststroke and Heberton posted a winning time of 56.18 in the 100-yard freestyle. They teamed with senior Nicole Gundersen (Hollis-Brookline/Brookline, N.H.) and junior Kelly Turpin (Mounds Park Academy/Saint Paul, Minn.) to record a winning time of 4:12.40 in the 400-yard medley relay and later paired with junior Jovanna Hart (Bradford Area/Bradford, Pa.) and freshman Shannon Archer (Niskayuna/Scotia) to post a first-place time of 1:43.98 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
Ithaca recorded a one-two finish in the 200-yard butterfly as junior Kelsey Gliesing (Joel Barlow/Redding, Conn.) posted a winning time of 2:22.05 and sophomore Lauren Cook (Liverpool/Liverpool) place second with a time of 2:36.81. Turpin posted a winning time of 2:18.31 in the 200-yard backstroke with senior Jill Donaldson (Penfield/Boothwyn, Pa.) in second with a time of 5:44.31.
 
In the 500-yard freestyle, Hart finished first with a time of 5:34.34 and freshman Lindsey Stafford (Baldwin/Baldwin, N.J.) posted a second-place time of 5:44.31. Also recording first place finishes were Gundersen, in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:17.10, and junior Kim Wheeler (Southern Cayuga Central/Genoa), who won the 200-yard I.M. with a time of 2:25.06. 
Sophomores Sarah Murphy (Watkins Glen/Horseheads), Thea Joyce (Amsterdam/Amsterdam), Sam Hagan (Pennsbury/Yardley, Pa.) and Turpin were second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with 1:52.12 to give the team its fourth one-two finish of the evening.
 
The Bombers return to action Saturday at Union. The dual meet is set to begin at 2 p.m.
