Bombers Top Messiah At Budd Whitehill National Duals

Robert Stubbs is unbeaten against Division III opponents this winter
Williamsport, Pa. -- The #24 Bombers posted a 35-9 win over Messiah in the consolation round of Lycoming’s Budd Whitehill National Duals.

Four Ithaca wrestlers improved to 4-0 at the tournament: senior Jad Duca (South Brunswick/Monmouth Junction, N.J.), who won by fall at 157 pounds; fourth-ranked Matthias Keib (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton) by major decision at 174 pounds; fifth-ranked Robert Stubbs (Levittown/MacArthur) by major decision at 184 pounds and junior Nick Calandrino (Emerson/Emerson, N.J.), by decision at 197 pounds.
 
Duca improved to 16-2 on the season and 79-31 in his career; he is a win away from tying Dan Butler (1995-99) and Chris Matteotti (1991-95) for 20th on Ithaca’s all-time wins list. Keib is now 19-1 on the season and 82-41 in his career. Stubbs (19-2, 89-31) is a win away from matching assistant coach Ryan Ciotoli (1997-2002) for 17th on the program’s career victory list. Calandrino is 18-3 this winter and 54-20 in three years.

Ithaca’s other winners were senior Macario Alvarez (Grapevine/Grapevine, Texas), by fall at 125 pounds; Tim Gammons (Natick/Natick, Mass.), by decision at 133 pounds; senior Scott Aronowitz (Clarkstown North/New City), by decision at 149 pounds; and junior heavyweight Tyler Daffinee (Binghamton/Binghamton) by fall.
