Ithaca Sweeps RIT, 9-3 and 11-2

Ithaca, N.Y. -- In the opener of Saturday’s sweep of RIT, freshman Nick Sottung (Pulaski/Pulaski) struck out nine and threw his first career complete game. He improved to 4-0, becoming the first Bomber freshman to win his first four decisions since Justin McEnroe (whose career record  for wins was broken last year by Sottung’s cousin Kyle). Freshman third baseman Josh Smith (Pulaski/Pulaski) singled twice and tripled and scored two runs. Junior outfielder Kyle Rutherford (New Milford/New Milford, Conn.) collected three hits and two RBI’s. Senior outfielder Ben McBride (Ridgefield/Ridgefield, Conn.) and freshman catcher Rob Raux (Ilion/Frankfort) added two hits apiece. Raux also drove in two runs.

In the nightcap, McBride doubled twice and drove in three runs. Senior second baseman Marty O’Boyle (Verona/Verona, N.J.) also finished with two hits and three RBI’s and scored a pair of runs. Sophomore Ryan Mays (Clinton/Clinton) earned his first win of the season, allowing five hits over six innings while striking out eight.
