Biography

2007: Smith moved to shortstop and ranked among the team’s leaders in walks (third), runs (fifth) and doubles (fourth) despite missing nine games. He was a .378 hitter in Empire 8 games and only Bomber had a higher on-base percentage in league games. Smith went three-for-four with two RBIs and two runs in the NCAA playoff win over St. John Fisher and turned in a three-hit, three-run performance in a win at Utica.
 
2006: Smith earned first-team all-region and all-conference honors for the second year in a row. He started every game and led Ithaca with 42 walks (one short of the school single-game record) and a .503 on-base percentage. He ranked second on the team with three home runs and three triples. Smith posted an on-base percentage of .621 when leading off an inning  and reached base in each of the last 38 games of the season. He drove in a career-best six runs in a win at Oneonta, collecting four hits including a school-record three doubles. He recorded five three-hit games, scored three runs four times and posted three three-RBI games. He tripled and homered against Eastern Connecticut in the NCAA regionals.

2005: Smith was a first-team selection to the ABCA all-region, ECAC and Empire 8 all-star teams. He led Ithaca in home runs (six), slugging percentage (.638), on-base percentage (.503), triples (three) and walks (35), and ranked second with 46 runs and 13 doubles. He ranked 16th in Division III in walks per game and his home run total set a Bomber freshman record. Smith’s 15 multi-hit games included a 5-for5 performance against RIT with two doubles, a triple and three runs. He drove in a season-high four runs in a win over St. John Fisher. His first two career home runs came in consecutive games against Master’s and Occidental.
 
High School: A 2004 graduate of Pulaski High School, Smith was coached by Butch Talpin. A five-year letter winner, he was the Central New York Player of the Year as a senior.
 
Personal: An environmental studies major, he is the son of Ronald and Patti Smith.
