ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College football team improved to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Liberty League with another dominant performance as the Bombers shutout St. Lawrence University, 66-0, on Saturday at Bertino Field at Butterfield Stadium on Saturday.
The 66 points scored today, along with the 76 points against Hilbert last week, are the highest two-game total the Bombers have tallied in program history. It's also the first time that IC has posted back-to-back games over 60 points.
IC racked up 573 yards of offense are sixth-most in a single game and the 104 yards allowed to St. Lawrence are the fewest the defense has given up since 2022 when Ithaca held the Saints to 93 yards.
Ithaca controlled the game from the opening offensive snap as
Michael Reed found
Nicholas Lang for a 79-yard touchdown just 19 seconds into the contest. The lead grew to 14-0 with 5:31 to go as
Chris Scully scored on a 6-yard run and then Reed scored with one second left in the quarter on an 11-yard jaunt to make it 21-0.
The Bombers outgained SLU, 176-21, in the quarter as the defense forced a pair of three-and-outs and used a sack from
Chris Clax and a 22-yard loss on an errant snap to keep the Saints from producing any momentum.
Ithaca scored 17 more points in the second quarter on a 19-yard pass from Reed to
Colin Schumm at the 11:45 mark, followed by a blocked punt by
RJ Boynton to set up a 26-yard field goal by Alexander Rice with 8:17 to go to make it 31-0. A 12-yard strike from Reed to
Antwan Harvey with 2:28 remaining capped off the first half scoring.
The yardage disparity grew heading to intermission as the Bombers totaled 307 yard to just 65 for the Saints.
Ithaca found the end zone three more times in the third quarter to increase the score to 59-0. SLU received the kick, but on the first offensive snap, fumbled the ball and Clax recovered at the 7-yard line to set up another touchdown for Scully one play later.
Anthony Mestre then scored from six yards out at the 7:46 mark to make it 52-0 and then
Chase Myers rumbled for a 73-yard score with 4:20 on the clock.
Mestre scored his second touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter for the final touchdown of the game to make it 66-0. He finished the game with 115 yards rushing on 14 attempts.
Myers had 98 yards on eight carries, while Reed produced 69 yards on 12 attempts.
Reed also threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns on 10-of-15 passing, while Lang was on the receiving end of four receptions for 116 yards.
Andrew Swierbut led the defense with five tackles, while
Joe Spirra had four stops.
Collin Leonhardt notched a sack, while
Davin Foote and
Landon Varley combined on a sack.
Ithaca heads to Hobart next Saturday, October 3 for a 1 p.m. showdown in Geneva.
