Men’s Basketball Clinches Playoff Bid with 86-62 win at Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's basketball defeated the Clarkson Golden Knights 86-62. Ithaca improved to 14-9 on the season and 11-5 in Liberty League play and has clinched a spot in the upcoming Liberty League Championship

The Bombers got off to a slow start offensively as they did not make a shot until a little over three minutes into the game on a three-pointer from Evan Cabral to tie the game at three. Logan Wendell followed that up with a layup to give the Bombers a 5-3 lead.

Ithaca and Clarkson then had a lot of back-and-forth play, including a sequence in which the both teams exchanged a total of five three-pointers with Ithaca getting its threes from Cole Wissink and Alex Penders. The Bombers then started to build the first big lead of the game, as they were able to get 24 of the next 33 points to close out the half leading 44-25.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Chris Leysath exploded for the Bombers, scoring eight points to help the Bombers keep their massive lead that they built at the end of the first half. Shortly after Ithaca then expanded their lead to 26 points on a three-pointer from Logan Wendell to lead 60-34. From there the Bombers never let up, and they were able to cruise to a final score of 86-62.

Logan Wendell led the team with 16 points followed by Evan Cabral with 14 points. As a team the Bombers shot 28-for-60 from field goal range and 13-for-33 from beyond the arc

The Bombers are in action again on the road on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Bard College in a Liberty League matchup.
