ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca College women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day in style on Saturday afternoon at Carp Wood Field, honoring its 10 seniors before cruising to a 4–0 victory over Bard College in a Liberty League matchup. The Bombers netted three goals in the first half and added another in the second to cap off a dominant performance.
Ithaca came out strong, generating two corner kick opportunities within the opening 15 minutes, though both were turned away by the Raptors' defense. The Bombers maintained pressure with crisp passing sequences aimed at breaking down Bard's backline and nearly found the breakthrough in the 17th minute when
Jayne Bogle fired a shot just wide of the right post.
Moments later, a swift transition led to a well-placed cross from
Ali Amari, who curled a ball into the box.
Lilyana Baldi connected and redirected it on frame, forcing a save from Bard goalkeeper McKenna Reeves. Reeves was called into action again in the 31st minute, denying a close-range strike from
Devin Sylvia.
The Bombers finally broke through in the 36th minute.
Reese Ruegamer made a surging run down the right flank and delivered a pinpoint cross to
Mia Medearis, who calmly slotted home her first goal of the season and fourth of her collegiate career.
Ithaca closed the half with a flurry, scoring twice in quick succession.
Kiera King netted her first collegiate goal after Medearis set her up in front of goal. Less than a minute later, Baldi added her second of the season, finishing a well-timed pass from Amari to extend the Bombers' lead to 3–0.
Just moments into the second half, King nearly doubled her tally with a long-range strike from 35 yards out that dipped at the last second and rattled off the crossbar in the 47th minute. Ithaca's relentless attack paid off again when
Nadia Mustafa capitalized on a corner kick. After settling the ball inside the box, Mustafa turned and fired a shot past the outstretched arms of Reeves to make it 4–0.
The Bombers dominated possession throughout the match, holding Bard to just one shot attempt, which came in the first half while outshooting the Raptors 27–1, including 16 shots on goal. Goalkeepers
Katrina Varnum,
Alessandra Castaneda, and
Tamia Silvera combined for the shutout.
With the win, Ithaca clinched the No. 5 seed in the Liberty League Tournament and will travel to No. 4 Skidmore on Tuesday. Game time is to be determined.
