ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's soccer team earned a dominant 2-0 win over the St. Lawrence University Saints on Wednesday afternoon. Coming off a 2-1 victory in their previous game, the Bombers looked to keep their momentum rolling — and they did just that.
The Bombers got their first good chance in the 6th minute when
Lilyana Baldi shot the ball from the top left of the box, but her shot sailed just left. In the 14th minute,
Sophie White took the ball on the right side and almost scored a banger outside of the box to the right side of the net, but Saints' goalkeeper Zoe Davenport caught the ball. The Bombers were the dominant team for the first 15 minutes, with four shots on target and limiting the Saints to zero.
The Bombers took control of the game in the 33rd minute, when the Saints had a misunderstanding in the back line and their fullback passed it to Davenport. Davenport then made an inaccurate pass that
Jayne Bogle took to the net. Davenport took the ball but lost control and Bogle made an easy finish to the low left of the net, which put Ithaca up 1-0.
Just ten minutes later,
Devin Sylvia picked up the ball and belted a 25-yard shot that landed high center and into the net. Davenport tried to jump up and tap the ball over the net, but she was unsuccessful. At the end of the half, the Bombers led 2-0 and had nine shots (seven on target), while the Saints only had one shot which was on target.
Ithaca remained the dominant team and got a really good chance in the 61st minute when Baldi delivered a cross into the box in which a Saints' defender took the ball and made an unsuccessful clear attempt. Bogle intercepted the ball from the top of the net and powered a shot that sailed just above the crossbar. The Bombers held on for the rest of the matchup, only letting up one more shot on target.
With the win, the Bombers record goes to 6-5-4 on the year and their conference record goes to 3-3-2 on the year. Ithaca will return to action on Saturday, November 1 when they welcome Bard College to town for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
