Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Blanks RPI, 2–0 on Carp Wood Field

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team returned to Carp Wood Field on Saturday to host RPI in a Liberty League matchup. Ella Shorkey netted a first half goal to give the Bombers the early lead, and Lily Fusco added an insurance tally in the second half to secure the victory.

Ithaca opened the match with possession and quickly earned three corner kicks within the first five minutes. Jayne Bogle forced the first save from RPI goalkeeper Ava Gaboury at the 9:44 mark, testing her with a strike from just outside the 18-yard box. The Bombers continued to apply pressure, and after a crisp passing sequence, Sophie White fired a shot that narrowly missed, sailing just over the crossbar in the 13th minute.

Dominating possession in the attacking third, Ithaca held a 6-0 advantage in shots through the first 25 minutes. Another dangerous opportunity came when Lilyana Baldi's attempt was blocked by an RPI defender.

The Bombers' offensive persistence paid off in the 43rd minute when Ella Shorkey scored a brilliant solo goal. She dribbled past an RPI defender and the goalkeeper before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net for her fourth career goal. Ithaca entered halftime with a commanding 13-0 edge in shots over the Engineers.

The pressure continued into the second half, and Devin Sylvia nearly doubled the lead with a low strike toward the right corner, but Gaboury made a diving save to keep RPI within one. Just over three minutes later, Jayne Bogle worked the ball down the left flank and found Lily Fusco, who spun and fired a shot into the back of the net at the 56:21 mark, extending the Bombers' lead to 2-0.

It wasn't until the 79th minute when RPI generated its first shot attempt from Bethany Kim, but it was denied easily by Katrina Varnum. The Bombers would hold on for the 2-0 victory as they ended up outshooting RPI by a 22-1 margin and held a 9-1 in corner kick chances.

The win marked the first of the Liberty League slate as Ithaca improved to 4-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in conference. The Bombers in the midst of a three-game homestand will return to action on Saturday, October 18 when they host Union for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
