Ithaca Softball Drop a Non-Conference Matchup to Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College softball team battled crosstown Cornell University on Tuesday as the Big Red earned a 9-3 win over the Bombers at Niemand-Robison Field. The Bombers will look forward to a weekend slate of Liberty League doubleheader matchups against St. Lawrence and Clarkson University after falling to 16-9 overall.
 
Cornell plated four runs on five hits to build a 4-0 advantage after the second inning. The Bombers were able to strike back with Hudson Hassler driving in Belle de Oliveira on a sacrifice fly and made it 4-2 when Kailen Winkelblech drove in Elise Waddington.
 
The Big Red added two more runs off of reliever Taylor Brunn including a bases loaded waling that gave Cornell the 6-2 lead. Cornell were able to tag two more run off of Ainsley Rogers with both coming in the fifth frame.
 
Ithaca was able to plate one in the top of the sixth when Cynthia Ehrenfeld recorded an RBI single that drove in Jessie Lopez. The Bombers managed six hits with Belle de Oliveira going 1-for-1 with a walk and Ehrenfeld also drew a walk going 1-for-2. Anna Cornell took the loss giving up four runs in two innings pitched where she also struck out three.
 
Ithaca College is slated to travel and take on St. Lawrence on Friday, April 19 for a Liberty League doubleheader slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
