Softball Returns to Liberty League Play with Split at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. - The Ithaca College softball team took on the Saints of St. Lawrence in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon as they battled the rain especially in the first game. The Bombers split the two games, winning the first 3-2, and losing the second 0-1. The Bombers advance to 17-10 overall and 4-3 in Liberty League play.

The first inning started off slow for both two teams with only one hit and one left on base combined for the two teams. The second inning was as similar as the first one, both teams being left scoreless by the top of the third. St. Lawrence went on to score in the bottom of the inning as they were aided by a pair of IC errors and went up 1-0 on a Vivian Johnson single.
 
The Bombers were scoreless until the top of the fifth frame until a Jessie Lopez single to right center, plated both Hudson Hassler who singled earlier in the inning and Kailen Winkelblech who go on after being hit by a pitch.
 
St. Lawrence responded with a score of their own right after with a triple down the right field line off the bat of of Maeve Thompson, allowing one of their players to score to tie it up at two runs apiece.
 
Tied at 2-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Hudson Hassler hit a homer down the left field line, allowing the Bombers to take their first lead of the day. The Bombers kept their lead until the end of the game as Anna Cornell struck out the final two Saints batters two end the game. With the win Cornell improved to 9-5 overall as she struck out 14 batters in the win.

A slow game for both teams resulted in a 1-0 win by St. Lawrence. Both teams were unable to make much happen, resulting in a pitcher's duel. Mady Rowell carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth as Stella VanGee placed a bunt to get on and scored on a Vivian Johnson RBI single that rolled to the left field wall.
 
Overall, Ithaca couldn't rally as they managed just three hits in the loss as Sophia Berrhill tossed a shutout against the Bombers.

The Bombers have a quick turnaround against Clarkson at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday in another road Liberty League doubleheader.
