POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team battled scatted showers throughout Saturday's doubleheader at Clarkson University as the Bombers ended up taking the first game 9-2 highlighted by 16 Anaa Cornell strikeouts in the pitching circle and capped it off with a 6-5 win to complete the sweep. The pair of Liberty League wins push the Bombers to 19-10 overall and 5-3 within the Liberty League while the Golden Knights dropped to 11-17 overall and 3-7 in league play.
Ithaca 9, Clarkson 2 (F)
Anna Cornell was in top form as the junior hurler tossed 16 strikeouts across six innings and the IC offense backed her up notching 14 hits.
Kailen Winkelblech went 3-for-4 at the plate as
Jessie Lopez,
Haley Petrucci,
Sydney Miranda and
Ava Rao also finished with multi-hit games.
The Bombers made it 1-0 in the top of the first with
Jessie Lopez tagging a single to the outfield gap that drove in
Sela Scheinman.
Hudson Hassler recorded an RBI single in the top of the fourth and Ithaca made it 4-0 with Scheinman and Lopez earning RBIs.
Ithaca added two more runs with Winkelblech legging out an infield single and
Belle de Oliveira recording a sacrifice fly.
Haley Petrucci continued her hot season with an RBI double to left field in the sixth making it 7-0. The Golden Knights scored both of their runs in the bottom of the sixth as IC added two more insurance runs with another RBI off the bats of de Oliveira and Lopez.
Ainsley Rogers retired all three batters in her inning of relief.
Ithaca 6, Clarkson 5 (F)
The nightcap lasted much longer than the first game as the teams were forced to the dugouts in the third inning as the Golden Knights led 3-1. Clarkson held that advantage until the sixth, where the Bombers scored five unanswered runs regaining the lead, for what turned out to be for good.
Ainsley Rogers was able to drive in a pair with a double to right field and
Belle de Oliveira drove in another run with a single to left center.
Sela Scheinman doubled home an RBI and eventually scored on a throwing error in a wild sequence of events.
Mady Rowell earned the win as she tossed 3.0 inning as the Golden Knights did plate three off her including one in the top of the seventh inning, but the Bombers held on for the win.
Taylor Brunn started the game and recorded five strikeouts in four innings.
Next up, the Bombers will host Cortland for a twinbill scheduled for Wednesday. April 24 with 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. start times.
