SPARKS, Md. – The nationally ranked No. 22 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season on March 13 against No. 14 Trinity College, 20-10, at Tierney Field. Ithaca is now 3-1 on the season.
The Bombers fell behind early and were never to recover as the Bantams jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first quarter. IC was able to pull to within six goals at 9-3 by intermission as
Maizy Veitch, Chole Nordyke and
Elizabeth Green all scored.
By the end of the third quarter, Ithaca trimmed its deficit to 12-8 with five third quarter goals. Veitch tallied her second goal of the game, while
Maddie Hall scored twice in the quarter and
Lily Cody and
Hayley Armstrong notched the other goals.
Trinity put the game away in the fourth quarter with eight more goals, to just one for Ithaca, for the 20-10 final. Cody scored on an advantage goal with just over seven minutes left and
Sydney Phillips scored on a free position in the final minute.
Caroline Wise won 10 draws in the game with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Phillips also caused three turnovers and
Lexi Held made 12 saves.
The Bombers will open Liberty League play on Saturday at RIT.
