Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 22 Women’s Lacrosse Downs RIT, 20-12, in Liberty League Opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 22 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team began Liberty League play at RIT on March 16 and posted a convincing 20-12 victory. The Bombers are now 4-1 on the season.

RIT scored the game's opening goal, but IC rattled off five straight goals in an eight-minute span and never looked back. The Bombers led by a 7-2 count after the first quarter and 11-5 at halftime. The Tigers pulled to within 11-7 early into the third quarter, but the Bombers would outscore RIT, 9-5, the rest of the game for the eight-goal win.

Maizy Veitch, Sydney Phillips and Chole Nordyke all tallied four goals in the win for IC. Lexi Kellish, Elizabeth Green and Maddie Hall each posted two goals, while Caroline Wise and Lily Cody accounted for the other two scores. Wise also dished out five assists, to go along with nine draw controls.

Lexi Held made seven saves in all 60 minutes of action in cage.

The Bombers outshot RIT, 36-24, despite the Tigers owning a 22-14 edge in draw controls. IC countered that disparity with 19 turnovers by RIT and the Bombers were a perfect 10-for-10 on clears in the second half.

Ithaca returns to Higgins Stadium on March 23 at 1 p.m. against St. John Fisher.
