Ithaca Softball Stack Up Another Win on Friday before Falling to Simpson

CLERMONT Fla. – The Ithaca College softball team put together a good performance in its first game on Friday as the team defeated Suffolk University 5-1, before falling 8-0 to Simpson College and all in all it was a good showing all week long from the Bombers. The split now has Ithaca's overall record sitting at 8-4 and will have their home opener next weekend hosting opponents on Saturday and Sunday.

Ithaca 5, Suffolk University 1 (F)

The Bombers overcame a pair of fielding errors and held the Rams to just one run as the offense was firing on all cylinders scoring five runs on six hits. Taylor Andrews went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI to lead the charge as both Taylor Brunn and Mady Rowell split time in the pitching circle with Brunn picking up seven strikeouts in her 4.0 innings of work.

Neither offense got much going until the Bombers plated four runs in the bottom half of the second inning. Kailen Winkelblech reached on an error and bases were loaded up with Sydney Miranda drawing a walk and Ava Rao getting hit by a pitch as Taylor Andrews drove in a pair with her single to left field. The Bombers would make it 4-0 adding two more runs on a Sela Scheinman sacrifice fly and when Jessie Lopez reached base after a Suffolk fielding error.

That lead proved to be more than enough with Suffolk plating its lone run in the top of the fourth but it was matched by IC who added one more insurance effort in the bottom half of the fifth frame when Kailen Winkelblech singled home Haley Petrucci.

Simpson College 8, Ithaca 0 (F-6 innings)

The Bombers were shutout for the third time this season as the bats got cold only managing three hits across six innings of play. Anna Cornell gave up three earned runs and was credited with her second loss of the season as she only managed one strike out.

Simpson plated three runs in the bottom half of the third inning first with an RBI double and then Maddie Luderman got a hold of one and set a homer over the left field fence. The Storm ended up adding one more in the fifth added another two off a homer in the fifth and would add two more insurance runs to complete the shutout in the sixth inning.

Sydney Miranda was 1-for-2 and Sela Scheinman drew a pair of walks in the IC loss.

The Bombers will host Nazareth University on Saturday, March 23 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. They will then take on SUNY Oneonta on Sunday for two games at 1 and 3 p.m.
