ITHACA, N.Y. - After coming off a 7-3 spring break trip the Ithaca Softball team hosted Nazareth for a double header matchup, marking their first home twinbill of the season. The Bombers dominated both games winning 8-0 and then followed it up with a 12-0 victory. Both were achieved in five innings as IC held the Golden Flyers to just one hit across both games.
Ithaca 8, Nazareth 0 (F-5)
Junior pitcher
Anna Cornell had an outstanding performance in the pitching circle, getting the win, while tossing a no-hitter. Cornell struck out the first 11 batters in a row and struck out two more in the following innings as she improved to 5-2 on the season. While the Golden Flyers were shut down, the Bombers offense was on fire.
Ithaca got on the board in the first inning with an RBI from
Elise Waddington scoring
Hudson Hassler who reached base via a single. First year
Sydney Miranda tallied the next RBI of the game with a single scoring
Kailen Winkelblech to put the Bombers up 2-0 in the bottom of the second. In the third Ithaca went on to have a two-out rally tallying two more runs on a passed ball and RBI single from
Haley Petrucci.
After a quiet fourth inning Ithaca's bats woke up to end the game with a four run fifth inning. Singles from Hassler, Miranda,
Ava Rao, and
Belle de Oliveira as well as a double from Waddington accounted for the Bombers late offensive run. The final score would be 8-0 off Ithaca's 12 hits.
Ithaca 12, Nazareth 0 (F)
Ithaca's success continued into their second game of the day with first year
Taylor Brunn taking the start in the circle. The first inning for both teams started off slow with only one hit from Nazareth's Maddie Russo who led it off with a double. It was a hitless game for the Bombers until the bottom of a second when
Elise Waddington crushed a homer, her second of the season. Winkelbech would then be walked and then advance to second base after a single from Syndey Miranda.
Taylor Andrews found a gap up the right side, scoring Winkelbech. A double from
Sela Scheinman would bring home both Miranda and Andrews putting Ithaca up 4-0.
Ithaca had an electric fourth inning scoring eight runs, bringing their lead to 12-0.
Haley Petrucci,
Olivia Comolli, and
Ainsley Rogers all hit homers accounting for six of the Bombers eight runs. This not only marked Rogers' first career home run, but her first collegiate hit altogether. The other two runs were brought in from singles from both Miranda and Hassler.
In the top of the fifth frame, first year
Mady Rowell would come in to finish the game. Rowell only faced three batters, striking them all out. The Bombers would win the game winning 12-0, off 12 hits, four being home runs. Brunn was named the winning pitcher, her third of the year.
The Bombers are now 10-4 this season and will travel to Rochester New York this week for a doubleheader against St. John Fisher on Thursday, March 28 with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
