Women’s Basketball Complete Season Sweep over RIT

Rochester, N.Y. – On the beginning of a three-game week, the Ithaca College women's basketball team battled hard and cruised past Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday night in a 70-52 win. The Bombers came out strong early on, but RIT battled back in the second quarter, when ultimately a decisive fourth quarter by IC led to a Bombers win.

The beginning of the game opened up with a three-minute scoring drought between the two teams, when ultimately Anya Watkins opened up the game with a layup at the 7:49 mark to start the back-and-forth battle. June Dickson had back-to-back layups making it 8-2 with under five minutes left in the quarter. Although the Bombers were not hot from the trey early on, they found a way to finish at the rim. The quarter ended 19-11 heading into the second.

The second quarter was an offensive burst for the Tigers, Camryn Coffey had a tough driving layup that went in, and an and-one free-throw to complete the three-point play. RIT went on an 8-2 run late in the second making it 28-24 still in favor of the Bombers sending the game into halftime.

The game continued to be a battle in the third quarter where the Bombers were trading shots with the Tigers. Anya Watkins was a force from the high post putting back jumpers to tie the game at 36 points apiece. Hannah Polce drew a foul and put back both free throws making it 38-36. Tori Drevna drew two fouls back-to-back and put back all four from the charity stripe making it 44-39. June Dickson ended the quarter with a jumper making it 46-43 going into the final 10 minutes of play.

The fourth quarter was an offensive burst for the Bombers where Tori Drevna had 10 points leading the Bombers to victory. Drevna had back-to-back threes assisted by June Dickson and Jillian Payne making it a 62-48 game. Coffey, Polce and Watkins contributed to extending the lead making it 68-49 with just over a minute to go. The game ended 70-52, in favor of Ithaca.

Tori Drevna led the way with 19 points, followed by a double-double from Anya Watkins with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Camryn Coffey and Hannah Polce both chipped in 11 points, with June Dickson following with 10. Despite shooting only 20% from the three, the Bombers came up big on the boards having 20 offensive boards, and 53 total rebounds.

Ithaca returns to action this weekend, on Friday, February 9, with a home matchup against St. Lawrence University slated for 5:30 p.m.
