ITHACA, N.Y.– The Ithaca College women's basketball team continued their winning ways when they played in Ben Light Gymnasium, taking on the St. Lawrence Saints on Friday evening. The Bombers were able to explode offensively in the first half sparking their momentum en route to a competitive 60-51 win earning the season sweep over the Saints while improving their record to 18-4 overall and 12-3 in conference.
The Bombers offense came out hot with a jumper from
Hannah Polce, followed by back-to-back layups from
Anya Watkins. Polce was feeling it from beyond the arc, and
Tori Drevna tagged along four points following the transition 3-pointer, stunning the Saints making it a 19-9 game as the first quarter expired.
Camryn Coffey was able to chip in a good three-pointer early in the second quarter. Tough defense prevented the Saints from doing anything they wanted too. Drevna was hot from the 15-foot range, and put in another jumper in the paint making it 29-19 in favor of the Bombers with under three minutes to go in the half. The half ended with Drevna drew a foul in the paint and put back her two free throws, making it a 33-23 game with the Bombers on top going into the halftime break.
The second half was where the Saints attempted to pull back into the game, but
Camryn Coffey went on a run of taking the ball to the basket and putting away two baskets with six minutes to go in the third. Elizabeth Flynn from the Saints had a gritty third quarter, attempting to cut the gap, but
Tori Drevna responded with a three-point bucket making it 38-46 in favor of the Bombers.
It was a close game in the end, but
Zoraida Icabalceta came in clutch putting in two jumpers late in the game, extending the lead to 57-49 including what turned out to be the dagger with three minutes to go. Cam Roberts had a layup that put the Saints within six, hitting a layup, but a
Hannah Polce three with 1:45 left, made it a 60-51 final to end the game.
Anya Watkins led the way for the Bombers with a double-double recording 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Camryn Coffey followed with 13 points, and
Hannah Polce tagged along with 11 points and five assists on the night. Elizabeth Flynn from the Saints knocked down 15 points on the night.
Ithaca will begin to close out Liberty League play in their next game which is tomorrow in Ben Light Gymnasium, where the Bombers will take on Clarkson at 2 p.m.
