Baseball Drops Final Game at Clarkson, 5-2

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team was unable to complete the series sweep at Clarkson University on Saturday as the Golden Knights salvaged a 5-2 victory in the third and final game. Ithaca is now 20-12 on the season and 9-5 in the Liberty League will five regular season games remaining on its schedule before postseason play.

The Bombers fell behind, 5-0, after seven innings and finally got on the board in the top of the ninth inning as Garrett Callaghan drove in the initial run with a sacrifice fly that allowed Colin Shashaty to score and then Matt Curtis brought home Collin Feeney with a base hit, but the game came to a close shortly after that.

Clarkson jumped out to its lead with a run in the second inning and another in the third. The Golden Knights then tacked on two more runs in the fifth and their final run crossed the plate in the seventh.

IC had multiple scoring chances throughout the game as the Bombers placed seven runners in scoring position prior to the ninth inning but could not come up with a clutch at bat to push any runs home.

Feeney and Louis Fabbo each recorded three hits as IC finished with 10 hits on the day – all singles.

Garrett Bell took the loss in 4.2 innings pitched as he allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out two. Matt Chase tossed 2.1 innings of relief and allowed one run with two strikeouts and Dan Kellachan threw one inning.

The Bombers return home for a non-conference matchup with No. 24 Cortland on April 26 at 4 p.m.
