Hamilton Tops Ithaca in Midweek Contest, 12-8

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team suffered a 12-8 loss at Hamilton College in a non-conference midweek matchup on March 28 at the Loop Road Complex. Ithaca is now 10-8 on the season with three Liberty League games coming up this weekend against St. Lawrence University at Freeman Field.

The Bombers fell behind Hamilton, 5-1, after two innings of play and were never able to recover from the early deficit. The Continentals scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a pair of singles and a ground out.

IC got on the board in the top of the second inning to cut the difference to 3-1 as Mike Nauta drove in Connor Pedersen with a single to centerfield. Hamilton plated two more runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI triple, followed by a single.

Hamilton's lead grew to 6-1 in the fourth, but IC pulled back to within four runs in the fifth as Louis Fabbo drove home Nauta with a single to left. The Continentals then pushed three more runs home in the bottom half of the fifth, with two coming on a home run to left, to make it a 9-2 contest.

The Bombers would bring home two more runs in the seventh on a triple from Riley Brawdy and a ground out by Garrett Callaghan. IC's comeback attempt was short-lived as Hamilton extended its lead to 12-4 in the bottom of the seventh.

Ithaca would have one last comeback attempt in the ninth as the Bombers scored four runs, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Callaghan drew a bases loaded walk to start the rally, and then Gil Merod brought in Brawdy with an infield single. A fielder's choice by Matt Curtis made it a 12-7 game and then Pedersen drove home the last run for IC with a base hit to center.

Jack Colyer took the loss as he allowed five runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings pitched. Erislandy Rives, Dan Kellechan, Bo Nicholson and John Griffin three the final five innings in relief.

Nauta and Pedersen each collected three hits in the loss, while Curtis went 2-for-5 and Fabbo was 2-for-4.

Saturday's doubleheader against SLU is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
