AUBURN, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team erupted for 16 runs in a Liberty League matchup against St. Lawrence University on April 2 at Falcon Park to secure a 16-2 win. The Bombers utilized seven walks and seven hit by pitches, along with four extra base hits to pull off the convincing win.
Garrett Callaghan was the star of the game for Ithaca has he drove in seven runs on a 3-for-4 afternoon at the plate, which included a sacrifice fly, two doubles and a three-run home run.
The Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning without producing a hit.
Mike Nauta led off with a walk and then
Louis Fabbo reached on a fielder's choice without an out being recorded.
Riley Brawdy drew another walk to load the bases and Callaghan drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly. Another fielder's choice retired the first out of the inning, but back-to-back hit by pitches to
Ryan Laubscher and
Gil Merod brought home the second run of the frame. A wild pitch ensued to make it a 3-0 score as
Matt Curtis scored.
The Saints got two runs back in the top of the second inning. St. Lawrence began the inning with a single and double to put two runners in scoring position. A dropped fly ball allowed the first run to score, and a squeeze pushed in the second run.
From there, it was all Ithaca as the Bombers scored three runs in the bottom of the second and five in the bottom of the third to build an 11-2 lead. Ithaca then plated five more runs in the sixth inning to account for the 16-2 final.
In the second, Callaghan doubled in two runs and
Matt Curtis drove in another with a single. In the next inning, Nauta drew a bases loaded walk and then Fabbo brought home another on a sac fly. Callgahan would cap off the inning with a three-run shot to right-center.
In the sixth,
Connor Pedersen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to start the five-run outburst.
Collin Feeney then picked up an RBI with a groundout and Fabbo doubled down the line to bring home two more. Callaghan drove in the final run of the game with a ground-rule double to right-center.
Fabbo drove in three runs for IC and scored twice. Brawdy drew three walks and scored two runs, while Nauta walked twice and scored two runs. Curtis, Merod, Pedersen and
Ethan Rothstein all scored twice in the win.
Colin Leyner earned the win in 6.0 innings pitched with four strikeouts and two runs allowed (one earned) on five hits and one walk.

Ben Landis each tossed an inning of relief.
Ithaca and St. Lawrence will finish up the three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. at Falcon Park.
