ANNADALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball was back in action on Saturday afternoon on the backend of a back-to-back as they were at Bard and they routed the Raptors winning by a 73-52 score. The Bombers ran out to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and didn't look back as they secured their first Liberty League win of the season and improved to 5-2 overall.
The Bombers shot an impressive 52.9% from the field and were 3-of-5 from 3-point range in the first quarter as their defense also forced seven turnovers during the opening 10 minutes of play.
Zoraida Icabalceta splashed a 3-pointer that was assisted by
Camryn Coffey that put Ithaca up 10-1. They extended their lead towards the end of the quarter going on a 7-2 run to close the quarter that started with a
Graycen Dubin layup and was capped off by a Dubin trey.
Ithaca continued to play its strong brand of stingy defense in the second quarter and extended the lead to 28-10 in its favor with
Avery McPeek converting on a driving layup. The Bombers bench continued to produce as
Shae Sabino knocked down a 3-pointer,
Elizabeth Majka netted a jumper and Isabella Mittleman got on the scoreboard with a layup putting them up 35-15 with 5:09 left in the half. Ithaca would extend its lead to 41-17 when Icabalceta assisted on a
Shana Desir jumper. The Bombers went into halftime leading 47-21.
The Raptors played much better in the second half as they outscored IC 19-14 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 61-40. Shirley Dong got the scoring started in the fourth hitting a trey just over a minute into the period. The teams would essentially trade baskets down the stretch with including back-to-back tough layups from
Avery McPeek and
Elizabeth Majka that were both assisted by
Tori Drevna. Majka would drain a pair of free throws during the final minute of play for the final score of 73-52.
Every member of the team saw minutes on the floor for the Bombers as both
Annabella Yorio and
Elizabeth Majka tied for a team-best with 10 points apiece. Ithaca shot 50% (32-of-64) from the field and led by as much as 26 points. Three different student-athletes scored 14 each for Bard who drop to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the Liberty League.
Ithaca College will host the University of Rochester inside Ben Light Gymnasium in a non-conference matchup against the YellowJackets that will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6.
