Ithaca Volleyball Cruise to a Three-Set Victory; Julia Costa Surpasses 1000 Digs

ITHACA, N.Y. - The No. 23 ranked Ithaca College volleyball team continued to dominate the court with a three-set sweep over the St. Lawrence University Saints. This win boosts IC's conference record to 2-0 and their overall record to 13-3 for the 2023 season. The Bombers are on a bonafide hot streak winning eight in a row. They walked out of Ben Light Gymnasium winning a staggering 21 of their last 22 sets.

VS. ST. LAWRENCE (25-6, 25-15, 25-14)

The Bombers didn't waste any time lighting up the scoreboard. They slammed down 12 points before the Saints found a point. Faith Sabatier put up a highlight reel with six kills and a block en route to a 25-6 first set. As a team the Bombers ended with an absurd .667 hitting percentage; a whole .767% better than their opponent who ended the set hitting -.100%.

Set two started in similar fashion, starting off with a 11-1 Ithaca lead. Ella Graper proved to be a force at the service line notching two of a career-best eight aces. After a Saints timeout, they didn't go away quietly bringing the match within four points 17-13. The Bombers momentum was only impeded as they ran away with the set 25-15 highlighted by Anaya Prince's impressive play at the net. She ended the set with four kills and two blocks.

Set three was the most competitive of the night. It was the only set of the night where St. Lawrence ended up hitting positive. While the attacking attempts were similar, Ithaca was far more efficient offensively with five more kills and half as many errors. Alexandra Montgomery rotated in and had a pair of big swings that fired up the home crowd. The final score of the final set was 25-14 in favor of IC.

While it was certainly an offensive barrage of a game for the Bombers, it was a monumental night defensively. Senior Libero Julia Costa collected her 1,000th career dig. When asked about the achievement, Costa was credit to acknowledge her teammates.

"Obviously I couldn't have done it without my girls. It's exciting to reach such a huge milestone, but it's a long season and I'm even more excited for the future," remarked Costa.

The Bombers resume Liberty League play hosting Skidmore College on Saturday at 1 pm. Tomorrow's game will also be Senior Day at Ben Light Gymnasium as the team will celebrate the careers of Julia Costa, Jamie Koopman and Alexandra Montgomery in a pregame ceremony.
