Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 20/21 Women’s Basketball Hand Skidmore its First Liberty League Loss of the Season

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The No. 20/21 ranked Ithaca College women's basketball team built a 24-11 lead after the first 10 minutes of play as the Bombers ended up handing Skidmore College their first Liberty League loss of the season on Friday evening besting them by a 73-61 final. With the win, Ithaca has now reeled off seven-straight wins to improve to 13-2 overall and 8-0 within conference play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Emily Dorn paced the Bombers in scoring with 19 points as she was perfect from the field shooting 7-of-7 as she also grabbed nine boards to go along with a pair of blocks.
  • Both Natalie Smith and Hannah Polce also finished with double digit scoring totals with Smith chipping in 17 points, five assists and five rebounds. Polce finished with 13 points, which included a momentum changing 3-pointer as her and Smith were the only Bombers on Friday to connect from downtown.
  • Ithaca snapped the Thoroughbreds five-game win streak thanks to once again outstanding defense, which has been a theme all season long for IC. The Bombers held Skidmore to 22-of-60 shooting from the field and 33% from 3-point range (5-of-15).
  • The game was tied twice, both early within the first quarter as Ithaca. Skidmore was forced into 13 turnovers and that proved to be pivotal with IC outscoring them 19-8 on points off turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Natalie Smith got the Bombers on the board first cashing in from long range after Cara Volpe got her open with a drive to the basket. Skidmore (11-4, 7-1 Liberty League) would tie it at 5-5 after Becca Horger scored from downtown. They went on to make it 7-5 at the 6:57 mark but were held to just four points the remainder of the quarter as Ithaca went on a 19-4 run, which included a last second jumper from Lindsey Albertelli.
  • Skidmore ended up outscoring the Bombers in the second quarter, 17-13, but still trailed 37-28 going into the halftime break.
  • Emily Dorn connected on the first shot of the second half once again putting her team up by double figures (39-28), but Skidmore cut the lead to 42-37 with an Emmy Plage trey with 6:53 left in the quarter. The Bombers scored the next five-straight, including a pair of made free throws from both Dorn and Smith making it 51-41. The Bombers held for the final shot of the quarter as Cara Volpe dished it to Dorn who connected on her jumper.
  • An early highlight of the fourth quarter was Lindsey Albertelli forcing a Thoroughbred turnover, which led to an easy fast break bucket from Emily Dorn that made it 59-49.
  • Down the stretch Ithaca hit their free throws to spoil any comeback attempt from the Thoroughbreds.
Up next, Ithaca remain on the road for a Saturday matchup at Union College. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
