Women's Crew Takes Home Medals in Three Categories at the NYS Championships

SARATOGA, N.Y.- The Ithaca College women's crew team traveled to Saratoga Springs this weekend to compete in the New York State Collegiate Championship Regatta. The race featured Bombers entries for women's first, second, and third varsity eights, with the 2V and 3V entered in the same category. The Bombers also raced in the women's varsity four and the women's frosh/novice eight categories. 
 
The first race of the day for IC featured the women's 1V. The lineup consisted of Michelle Hyland, Allison Arndt, Laura Trainor, Dania Bogdanovic, Taylor Volmrich, Izzy Ozkurt, Glenn Hartley, Karley Whalen, and Eliza Worth. The Bombers faced off against crews from Marist, University of Rochester, Skidmore, Manhattan, and St. John Fisher. The Bombers took first place with a final time of 7:00.00 finishing ahead of University of Rochester who went 7:11.58. The Bombers earned themselves a spot in the final. 
 
In the 1V final, later in the day, IC would face off against Canisus, Colgate, Marist, University of Rochester, and Skidmore. The Bombers went 6:54.35 placing second in a close finish behind Marist who went 6:52.080.
 
Next up for the Bombers was the women's varsity four. The heat featured lineups from Iona, Stony Brook, and Colgate. The IC boat included coxswain Holly Rybnick as well as Melanie Belmont, Kelsey Lavin, Katrina Pohlman, and Emma Anderson. The four pulled ahead early, taking first place with a final time of 8:18.05. The Bombers defeated the second-place Iona crew by a margin of about 30 seconds. The four placed themselves into the first final. 
 
The four faced off against Vassar, Colgate, Marist, and Iona in the final where they would finish fourth with a final time of 8:16.360 behind Marist who went 8:14.44. 
 
The next event of the day for Ithaca was the women's 2V eight. The women had entries in two separate heats, one for the 2V and another for the 3V. 
 
The first heat included the 3V where they faced off against similar competition from Marist, Colgate, and the University of Rochester. The Bombers finished the course in 7:56.31 behind the University of Rochester taking sixth place. The 3V qualified for a spot in the petite final later in the day. The 3V would face off head-to-head with Canisius. IC fell to Canisius with a time of 8:00.70.
 
The second heat included IC's 2V, Manhattan College, Skidmore, and Canisius. The Ithaca 2V included coxswain Carlie Wohlfahrt and rowers Edie McRoberts, Erika Elcsisin, Erin Trojan, Madelyn Farber, Emma Hammel, Brenna Hanratty, Emily Lighthall and Devi de Oliveira.The Bombers took first place ahead of Manhattan College by a margin of about 26 seconds with a final time of 7:15.09. The 2V earned a spot in the final. 
 
In the final, the Bombers would see crews from Skidmore, Manhattan College, Marist, Colgate, and University of Rochester. The 2V would place first, taking gold with a final time of 7:07.00, beating out Marist by about 2 seconds.
 
The final race of the day for IC was the women's frosh/novice eight. The event included crews from Army, Iona College, University of Rochester, Vassar, and Binghamton. The Bombers took third place, finishing the course in 7:50.914. 
 
All in all, it was a great showing for the Bombers, taking home medals in 3 categories. The Bombers will train all week for a packed weekend. The Bombers are slated to compete in two regattas, the Liberty League Championships on Friday, located on the same racecourse as this weekend and a race with Hamilton at home for Senior Day on the Cayuga Inlet on Saturday.
