Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team was up 2-1 after doubles play, but George Fox University was able to spoil the Bombers finale of their Spring Break trip by besting them by a 5-4 score. With the loss, Ithaca College dropped to 6-2 overall while the Fox improved to 8-4.
The Bombers were able to get off to the 2-1 start thanks to wins in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. In the top flight,
Taylor Crain and
Lauren Rodriguez swept their opponents by an 8-2 score. It was an ultra-competitive matchup, but
Zoe Davis and
Eliana Chelnick prevailed over Cassey Hitch and Kalli Wiker by a final score of 8-6. George Fox avoided the sweep by winning No. 3 doubles 8-3.
Taylor Crain bested Danielle Brown at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-2. With
Kayla Shenk able to best her opponent at No. 6 singles, 6-1 and 6-1 it came down to
Zoe Davis and her match with Olivia Davis after the Fox gained points at No. 2, and No. 3 singles. Davis fell 4-6 in the first set then won the second 6-4 before she lost 10-8 in the third set tiebreaker.
Ithaca College return to action in exactly five days when the program travels to the University of Rochester on Wednesday. The dual match is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
