GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team took part in the two-day Mary Hosking Invitational, wrapping up play on Sunday afternoon.
Alys Pop led the Bombers, winning the A Flight after taking down William Smith's Katelyn Gray, 8-4. Pop finished the day 2-1 in singles.
Pop and Ava Casell-Lapetina paired up for doubles action, collecting three wins. The duo opened with an 8-3 victory, followed by a 9-7 win before earning their final victory of the day, 8-1, in the semifinal round. The pair finished second after a hard-fought battle with Yvette Karera and Ariane Karera, falling 9-8 (7-4).
Battling through her singles flight was Madeline Suturo, who won her opening bout against Lillian Stukovsky, 9-7, before taking down Emily Grab, 7-4, in the quarterfinal round. She eventually fell to Ariane Karera of St. Lawrence, 8-6.
The Liberty League Rookie of the Week, Zuri Freeman, made it to the semifinal in Flight B, taking down Maddy Alecia, 8-4, and Hayley Menon, 8-6. She battled hard against St. Lawrence's Callie Perrin, dropping a narrow 9-7 decision.
IC will wrap up its fall slate by taking part in the ITA Regional Championships, taking place October 2-4. Fellow Liberty League opponent Skidmore College will play host.
